Shall we continue the list of appliances and gadgets that can be found in my kitchen? Here we go!

I love to bake cakes, pies, cookies. And to help with these recipes I have a Kitchenaid stand mixer. That’s every baker’s dream. Mine is an Artisan, which is only for domestic use. For people who bake a lot, there’s a professional model. It’s heavy, powerful, can take any batter. I’m the type of person who doesn’t like to mix things with her hands, so I just chuck everything in there, because I know it can take it. It can even make bread! And it’s so pretty!! It’s usually very expensive, with some colours costing over R$ 2000.00. So here’s my tip: buy it from Compra Certa on Black Friday. I bought mine 2 years ago and paid R$ 1250.00. Worth every cent.

I also have a Kitchenaid hand mixer, which is really handy (get it?). It’s useful to mix soup in the pot, mix a shake or some juice. If you’re first setting up your kitchen or you live on your own, I find it more useful than a bulky blender. There are so many hand mixers to choose from and many come with accessories. Mine is the simplest Kitchenaid one, but it’s powerful. I also have a blender, but I barely use it.

Another must-have appliance is a good food processor. It might seem too much, but it really isn’t. It grates, slices, makes juice, mixes batters (good if you don’t have a stand mixer or have a small kitchen) etc. It can replace many other gadgets. The main thing is to get a powerful one, or it won’t do much. Mine is a Jamie Oliver one, from Philips, which is 1000w. I admit I wanted a Kitchenaid one, but this was much cheaper. And it is still really good.

The fridge here is over the top. A large one, with two doors and a big freezer. It was difficult to move it from the old house to this one. But it’s spacious and that’s the reason I wanted it. I really needed more space in the freezer. But just by having the freezer on the bottom it already makes me happy. It makes much more sense to have the fridge at eye level. Another Brastemp appliance I got from Compra Certa on Black Friday with a big discount. Watch out, because November is just around the corner.

And something I can’t live without is a dishwasher. I’ve had one since I was a teenager. I hate doing the dishes, it’s the only house chore that never ends. So I class a dishwasher as a must have appliance. And don’t give me a small 6 or 8 people one. Mine is a large one, good for 12 people. And I still can’t fit everything in it. The one I have is old and is not even sold anymore. This would be the updated model. I should buy a new one soon, but since mine still works and I’m not exactly in a position to waste money, I’ll keep it for now.

Lastly, I think it’s good to have a water filter. Nobody likes to drink from the tap and if you buy bottled water you have to deal with all the plastic waste. I’ve had different ones over the years and now I use the Brastemp one, which is a subscription service.  I pay monthly and Brastemp deals with all repairs and preventive maintenance. It saved me a headache last time I moved. In my old house I needed to get a 220v one, because of the socket where it was installed. In this house the socket was 110v. But all I had to do was call Brastemp and schedule the reinstallation, requesting that they changed the old filter for a 110v one, at no additional cost. It has 3 different temperatures (room temperature, cool, cold) and good pressure. And it really doesn’t take that much space. There are different models and mine is the black Brastemp Ative, in the Smart plan. I don’t really know if other companies offer this subscription service. If you’re in Brazil and want to try it, using this link will grant you 2 months for free.

Well, these are the main things I have in my kitchen. But I’m really gadget crazy, so I also have popcorn makers (one will be donated), ice cream maker, coffee maker, electric kettle, toaster. I had a juicer, but I gave it away when I realized I wasn’t consuming fibers with those juices, so they weren’t really healthy. Some other time I can show you other kitchen knick-knacks that help me with my cooking efforts.

How about you? What is that one appliance or gadget you can’t live without? Let me know!
