That’s it, holiday is over. It was a great tip, weather was good in the UK, we even went to the beach! I flew business class, went shopping, met with friends and family and visited new places and some I already know and love.

But something went wrong during this trip: my diet. It’s tough being vegetarian and low carb away from home. In London and Cardiff, I didn’t do so bad. But in a small town in Wales it was almost impossible to stay on the diet.

I felt I was putting weight on and, to be honest, I had already gained some weight before travelling. Dr. Ju Bicca had talked to me about fat set point and how the body tries to recover the fat tissue after a weight loss process. I gained 2kg of fat in the month before the trip.

The only good thing about my eating habits in those weeks was the fact I learnt to eat scrambled eggs for breakfast. In Wales, I had eggs with turmeric and cheddar almost every morning. But that was usually my only low carb meal of the day. I had a lot of Quorn, which is really tasty but can be very high in carbs depending on the product. And I only worked out in London, because we couldn’t find a good gym in Blackwood. Truth is, the only gym we found was really iffy and we didn’t have the courage to sign up.

The result? I got home weighing 72kg. Yep, 72kg! Shocked and heartbroken, but no time to cry. I had to get back on a keto diet today: scrambled eggs for breakfast, veggie burger and vegetables for lunch, chocolate mousse made with cream and 85% cocoa chocolate for lunch. And coffee, lots of coffee.

Now it’s time to get back to where I was before. And there’s no secret to getting there: I need diet and exercise. And I have two new toys to help me. I bought a Fitbit Charge 2 on Amazon and a Fitbit Aria scale in the duty-free store in GRU Airport. I posted on Instagram about the Charge 2. It’s a wristband that tracks heart rate, steps, flights of stairs, active minutes, workouts etc. It also has reminders to move regularly, SMS and call notifications, silent alarm, sleep monitor. It’s really good! And Aria is a ‘smart’ scale. It measures weight, BMI and fat% and adds it all to the same Fitbit profile, making it more accurate and complete and showing the impact physical activity has on the body. Of course, it doesn’t replace the advice of a doctor/dietitian, but it helps to stay on track.

Stay tuned to see how it goes.
