I’ve flirted with the idea of writing a blog many times. I would start it and then soon after I’d give up. Sometimes due to lack of time, other times not enough interesting things to say. They were always very specific and even I would get tired of the subject matter.

But lately, a lot of people suggested I wrote a blog. Not about one specific subject I’ve mastered, but just so I could more efficiently share the tips I already gave in the corridors of the office, or during a lunch break or even on Instagram.

The idea grew on me slowly. I started a WhatsApp group to share low carb recipes, wrote some emails with tips on what to do, where to eat and shop to some friends who were on their way to London, shared information about eating habits and dieting on Instagram, but I still didn’t have time to do something more structured. Serious bloggers do this full time and I already had my home, my family and my work to occupy my days. There was no time left for blogging.

Well, last month things changed. After working for the same company for 12 years, I was laid off during a restructuring process of the operation in Brazil, in which my boss ended up absorbing my responsibilities. It was a sad moment, obviously, but also an opportunity to reevaluate my career and do things I had been putting off for a long time.

Today I don’t have a job, but I have work! My work right now is finding a new opportunity in the market, preferably in the communication area, which is what I like the most. And working on finding work is not easy! It takes hours reading career related books, economy magazines to find opportunities, checking job posting sites, applying for jobs, attending coaching sessions and career related events… But I still found time to do other things that make me feel good: working out, taking care of my health, travelling, and writing.

And this is how Gabizilla came to be. It’s a place for me to talk about what I like, something I just found out about and I’m sure more people would find useful, where to buy that same shoe I wore in my latest outfit of the day post. And also a place to share about my life, the places I’ve visited, that job interview I had and the like. There will be many pictures and stories of my four legged kids and a few of my husband too. But I promise I’ll make it fun. Who knows, maybe in some years, my business card will read ‘Gabi Chaytor – Digital Influencer’, right?
